Tutoring Services

Support to Face Academic Challenges Confidently – Does your child have difficulties staying organized and turning in assignments? Do they find it challenging to complete tasks? Do they struggle managing their time or their materials? Regardless of your child’s age, struggling with their academics can impact their self-esteem, mental health, and overall quality of life. At City Counseling Center, we work with children, teens, and adults to help them succeed in school, college, and their careers. We take great pride in cultivating an environment where students of all ages can develop their academic identities.

Our tutor recognizes that no two people learn the same way. Each of our clients has unique academic difficulties they seek to overcome. Our tutoring services are designed around the needs of each individual student, regardless of their age. If you or your loved one is struggling with academics, we can help.

Trust, Respect, and Understanding

At the foundation of our tutoring services lies trust. When a student trusts their instructor they’re more likely to be honest about their challenges and their difficulties. At City Counseling, we create a safe, compassionate space for children, teens, and adults to learn without judgment.

In addition to improving academic performance and grades, our tutoring services are designed to:

  • Build self-confidence
  • Build independence
  • Enhance communication
  • Build personal responsibility
  • Enhance planning and organizational skills
  • And much more

The Rush Neurobehavioral Center's Executive Functions Curriculum

City Counseling Center is pleased to offer tutoring services leveraging the methods of The Rush Neurobehavioral Center’s Executive Functions Curriculum. This research-based educational program has proven effective in multi-year, school-based studies. With a focus on foundational skills, study strategies, and personal-growth skills, executive functioning curriculum provides students with regular behavioral and cognitive routines essential to thriving in school, college, and their careers. Executive functioning-based curriculums can help children, teens, and young adults focus on important tasks, make better decisions, and be more successful and confident in their schoolwork. Not only does this lead to greater success in school, but it also helps to enhance peer relationships as well.

Although tailored to each student's needs, the curriculum identifies the following areas as important for classroom instruction and life success:

  • Materials management (such as keeping up with agendas, folders, and assignments, etc.)
  • Planning and time management (such as learning to use an agenda, pay attention to important dates, meet deadlines, etc.)
  • Goal-directed behavior (setting and meeting goals)
  • Study strategies
  • Self-evaluation of performance (understanding learning strengths and weaknesses)
  • Flexibility to solve problems and revise plans
  • Decision making
