What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps individuals identify and change unhealthy thoughts, feelings, patterns, and behaviors. When left unmanaged, these harmful aspects of our life can negatively impact our wellbeing and quality of life. CBT is a therapeutic process that emphasizes current challenges, problems, or struggles instead of focusing on “how” or “why” these concerns came to be. CBT therapists support their clients in identifying and prioritizing troublesome thought patterns and behaviors hindering their path to living a happy and fulfilling life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy also helps individuals change the thought patterns standing in the way of their growth and development. Together with their therapist, participants determine which thought patterns are helpful or constructive and which are harmful or destructive. Once these distinctions are established, you’ll be able to make conscious decisions to change your behavior and life.

CBT is a useful tool to address emotional challenges, including:

  • Develop positive coping mechanisms to manage stressful situations
  • Cope with loss or grief
  • Manage emotional trauma relating to violence or abuse
  • Manage chronic physical pain symptoms
  • And more

CBT can help treat a wide range of mental health challenges and concerns, including:
